IndieHouseBooks.com: The Spider Thief begins with a con artist suffering amnesia. That’s an unusual choice for thriller. What made you want to write it?

The Spider Thief thriller with gold spider

Who would kill for a gold spider– and why? Find out!

Laurence MacNaughton: This might sound crazy, but it really happened.

Not too far from where I live in Colorado, a local man disappeared without a trace. When they found his car abandoned in California with the keys still in it, they feared the worst.

Then, a couple of weeks later, this guy woke up in the middle of the night, sitting on the sidewalk, holding a loaded gun.

He had no memory of what had happened in the past 14 days . . .

Andres held the long pistol steady . . .

The Spider Thief Omnibus paperback

Now in paperback! The Spider Thief: Omnibus collects all four novellas into one gripping novel.

“The gold spider,” Andres said in a resonant Spanish accent. “Her power will belong to me.

The crisp mountain air washed over Ash like a torrent of cold water. It whispered across waves of tan grass, carrying the scent of old pines, making him feel alive again.

The porch boards creaked as the gunmen crowded in on either side of Ash. Behind, Andres’s leather shoes stepped onto the wooden threshold of the abandoned farmhouse. Then everything went quiet.

“Show me,” Andres said, his voice husky. “The gold spider. Where is she?”

The Weird Thing You Didn’t Know About Amazon UK

Claire Hill, book reviewer extraordinaire

Claire Hill, book reviewer extraordinaire

Did you know that book reviews on the Amazon UK site don’t appear on the regular Amazon.com site?

That means any book can have two entirely separate sets of reviews.

You have to admit, there’s something slightly weird about that.

But it’s good to know that our friendly neighbors across the pond are enjoying The Spider Thief.

This week, I’d like to introduce you to Claire Hill, a prolific book reviewer in the UK. She reads crime, thriller, mystery and paranormal. To date, she has read and reviewed almost 3000 books. That’s amazing!

Plus, she had some great things to say about The Spider Thief. You can read her delightful review here.

The Spider Thief Omnibus paperbackMany years ago, I lost several crucial minutes of my memory, and in that time I almost died. There’s a funny thing about having your memories stolen from you — it makes you wonder how those memories, if you had them back, might change who you are.

As I sat down to write The Spider Thief, I knew that I wanted to have the main character piece together the mystery behind his own amnesia.

But then something weird happened. A few miles from my home, a man lost much more than a few minutes of memory. He lost two whole weeks.

This is a true story. Read more on SFSignal.com >

Everything You Know About E-Books is Wrong

Everything You Know About E-Books is Wrong

FACT: Indie authors are earning nearly half the total author revenue from genre fiction sales on Amazon.

Hugh Howey is one of the smartest people I know. So when he crunches a moonshot-load of data on e-book sales and comes to a jaw-dropping conclusion, people sit up and take notice. Here’s why you should, too:

FACT: Self-published authors as a group are making 50% more profit than their traditionally published counterparts.

FACT: 92% of the Top-100 best-selling books are e-books.

FACT: Amazon is currently making nearly as much profit from indie e-books as from Big Five e-books.

There’s more. Plenty more.

In fact, Hugh was kind enough to provide the hard data, so you can play around with the numbers yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Read the report here:

http://authorearnings.com/the-report/

So what do you think about Hugh’s conclusions? Leave me a comment.
