Look closely and you’ll also spot Rebel Planet on the right, which shares the same cover art. Hey, the more giant sword-swinging space lizards, the merrier!
Way back in the 1980s, there were gamebooks, those choose-your-own-adventure type of books where you made a decision and then turned to a specially-numbered paragraph to find out what happened next.
Now, they’re back.
Ian Livingstone, who (along with fellow Games Workshop founder Steve Jackson) sold millions of Fighting Fantasy books worldwide in the 80s, has just penned Port of Peril. It’s the first brand-new Fighting Fantasy adventure in many years. I’m completely psyched.
True to all things geekish, I give you my review of Margaret Weis Productions‘ newest role-playing game, based on the Leverage TV show. In a nutshell:
This is a fun little trial-sized game with a slick, big-budget wrapping over a savory indie center. You need not be a fan of the TV show to appreciate this gem. It contains bare-bones rules, pre-generated characters and a solid (if brief) adventure. In all, it’s a good evening’s worth of entertainment.
And you can get it for the princely sum of two bucks. Read the whole review at:
By the way, the overachieving folks at MWP have also just come out with a Smallville RPG. Check it out!

Who doesn’t love free stuff? Free is my favorite price! And also, being a true nerd of epic “I Grok Spock” proportions, I personally feel that Free RPG Day is possibly the coolest gamer grab ever.
Here’s the scoop: a bunch of role-playing game publishers have banded together to publish brand-new, trial-size versions of their big games. All you have to do is show up at your local participating game shop and hold out your hot little hands. Presto! Free sample game! How cool is that?
So make plans to be there this Saturday, June 19th, bright and early, for the best selection. I can tell you from agonizing experience that this stuff goes quick, so don’t get left empty-handed.
Where can you go? Check out the store locator on the Free RPG Day web page:
Now, go forth and game!
