Looking for some spooky music to set the Halloween mood this year? Look no further than Midnight Syndicate, one of my favorite bands of all time. (And that’s no joke, by the way. I have nearly every one of their albums. And a tee-shirt. Even a coffee mug. I’m practically a groupie.)
Anyway, sample any of their albums and you’ll find yourself immersed in a nightmarish soundscape of soul-stirring angst. Sure, among the sound effects and pipe-organ riffs, there’s a certain element of cheesiness. But it’s the good kind — the kind that invites you to have fun with the music. Let yourself get drawn into the illusion of horror, the mystery of the macabre. Revisit the chills you felt upon your introduction to The Phantom of the Opera, or Bram Stoker’s Dracula, or Edgar Allen Poe.
